Risks of wearing a tungsten ring?
I got married about five days ago, and my Wedding Band is made out of tungsten. Gold just didn't go well with my skin tone, so I went with a dark gray metal. Also, I'm really careless with my belongings so my wife wanted me to have something I couldn't break or damage.
I have once concern about my ring... If I'd end up getting an allergic reaction or being in an accident or something so I can't get the ring off, what happens? Would they have to cut my finger off to get the ring off!?
And if ER's are equipped to get tungsten rings off, can they do this in all cases and how do they do it?
The reason I'm asking is because I get injured all the time. From burning myself on the stove to getting stung by bees.
A ring cutter is a tool that has a diamond dust impregnated saw toothed blade that is designed to cut through metals of all sorts. I have been called to the hospital to use it for people who injured themselves or were in car accidents. Now, most emergency rooms have these tools, or tools that are similar, so do not worry about them cutting your finger off to remove your ring.
The reason a ring is cut off is if the finger is broken or badly bruised and terribly swollen--which means it would be swollen for quite awhile, so the ring is removed so that the circulation to the finger is not compromised. Any injury that causes long term swelling is what will necessitate the removal of your ring. An ordinary burn or blister would not normally make it necessary. Another reason to remove a ring is because of excess weight or enlarged knuckles.
