Im in the process of writing a book that takes place in an alternate reality United states, an area who's geography im less than familiar with. The biggest issue i've encountered is what kind of resources are realistically available along the east coast (more specifically the areas directly south of the great lakes, The Appalachian mountains, Kentucky, Virginia, D.C., Ohio, Pennsylvania, down to Georgia and Florida). The kind of resources im looking for are any large, easily accessible deposits of iron, oil, brass, copper, tin, coal, granite, marble, limestone, sandstone, hardwood, fish, sulfur, textiles, gold, silver, amber, cotton, wool, wine, sugar and dyes (Whoa is that all?) and most importantly could they be accessed with the use of medieval or ancient methods (pre 17th century).
