Shielded Twisted Pair (STP) network cable is used primarily in token ring networks. In STP, the twisted pairs of wire are wrapped in a foil shield and enclosed in a wire shield that is braided on the outside. This shielding helps in minimizing the EMI radiation and sensitivity to cross-talk. STP is not usually used for Ethernet, but the Ethernet standard explains the ways it can be used with 10Base-T, 100Base-TX and 100Base-T2 Ethernet networks. This can only be done by installing transformers with special impedances. Unlike UTP, it only contains two twisted pairs.

Coaxial Cables

Coaxial cable consists of three main parts: an inside Copper conductor, a dielectric tubular insulating layer, and a metallic tubular conducting layer. The insulating layers are used for reducing any possible interference. Its transmission speed ranges from 200 million to over 500 million bits per second. crossover cable?

whats a crossover cable? i need one to connect my laptop to my desktop to network them and have my desktop use the wireless internet that my laptop is picking up. i have a blue ethernet cable with all this(etl verified to tia/eia 568-a cat.5e---utp) and i have 2 small cables that came with my computers that look like they are black phone cords(what are they?) do i have to go to a computer shop and find a crossover cable?
yes it is my wireless router and the adapter that came with it wont pickup the signal yet my laptop(built in wifi) will which is why i want to network them. my desktop is vista. both my comps are side by side and i dont know why the adapter wont pick up the signal but the laptop will.
